Line Item

A line item can best be understood in contrast to a Constant. Where a constant has the same value for all time, a line item has the ability to be varied over time. This is not to say that you won't use the same value in each period of the line item; the point is that you have the option to change it.

Line items are an integral part of Financial Objects, which can contain any number of them. Each FO has at least one line item.

Example: A Basic Income FO has a line item for revenue. An Basic Accounts Receivable FO has a line item for its balance. A Basic Expense FO has a line item for its expense, and so on. In these examples revenue, balance, and expense are line item Parameters.

Adding and configuring Line Items

Line Items can also be added via the Add button in the FO Designer for a FO Type.

Click on the Add button at the bottom of the panel for a FO Type and select Line Item.
Title the line item
Enter a default value - This value will appear by default in any newly created FO Instance An FO Instance inherits all parameters and any logic(formulas) contained in the FO. Any change in the FO is immediately updated in all instances..
Add a Tool Tip - This will appear in any FO Instance by mousing over the title of the line item
Select the Units of the line item\
For Precision (Reports), select the specific precision for this constan
1. Report Default (default) - will be displayed in the level of precision designated in any report that contains this constant.
2. 0 - Units - Whole units
3. 1 - Tenths
4. 2 - Hundredths
5. 3 - Thousandths
6. 4 - Ten Thousandths
7. 5 - Hundred Thousandths
8. 6 - Millionths
9. 7 - Ten Millionths
10. 8 - Hundred Millionths
11. 9 - Billionths
Period Type - Duration or Instant
Visibility specifies whether this line item will appear in its FO Instances.

Tip: Sometimes it's useful to hide a line item that contains formulas only to simplify the interface for the model user The end user of the model, as opposed to the model designer. They, of course, could be one and the same..

Import Tag - If this line item will be the recipient of imported data, specify the unique import tag that will be used to identify such line items.
Deprecated Can Have Identity - If this line item will be the recipient of imported data, select Yes. An identity is necessary for mapping incoming data. If you are not sure, select No as you can always change it later.
